About

Claire Flint began painting at age seven, when her grandmother introduced her to watercolors. Primarily self taught since then, she has explored everything from still-life realism to impressionistic oil painting, multi-media encaustic and hand-sewn and applique art quilts. She has been an accomplished graphic designer and illustrator for the last fifteen years, had over forty art shows across five U.S. states and has over 500 original greeting card illustrations in wide circulation today.
“My art is my therapy, my church, my friend, and sometimes my demon. The creative process helps me to integrate things about my life and the world around me in a way that makes it stick. I enjoy following my intuition, exploring unfamiliar territory, and that moment just after experiencing the terror and resistance of something new, when I can fall into a state of complete trust.”
Claire discovered her love of photography in 2008 shooting her vaudeville performer friends for something “to sketch from later.” She was surprised to discover pieces suitable to show in a gallery. Shortly thereafter she purchased her first SLR camera and began teaching herself on the job as a freelance photographer.
In 2010 she was voted “Best Visual Artist” in the Eugene Weekly’s reader polls and was accepted into the Mayor’s Art Show for the first time.
In 2011 Flint opened a professional photography studio under her freelance design company name, Three Seed Design. Later that year she joined forces with Melissa Mankins to start Paper Moon Photo Studio, providing live mobile photo studio rental, in-studio, location and live event photography.
At the end of 2012 Paper Moon aquired their new location in the Whiteaker, at the heart of Eugene, Oregon’s artistic playground. They are now operating as Paper Moon Photo Studio & Gallery primarily shooting exotic artistic and narrative themed shoots, commercial and family photography, host Last Friday ArtWalk events monthly and elaborately themed parties and cult classic film screenings. Their custom live photographer mobile photo booth rentals have become infamous so book well ahead of time!
“I always wanted to be part of a creative movement, and I found it in the Whiteaker. I felt compelled to document all of my incredibly talented friends and found no end of inspiration with all that has been happening in the fashion, vaudeville, dance and music scene here. Photography was the best way for me to capture that. As a busy working mother who no longer had time to paint, I began to find my creative needs satisfied by photography and began to play with different approaches. I’ve been in love ever since.”
Claire lives in Eugene, Oregon with her 6 year-old daughter Penelope “Penny” Lane and musically gifted husband Mike Last. She currently divides her time between mothering, fashion and portraiture and live event photography, covering rock shows for the Register-Guard’s Ticket Files entertainment blog, painting in her home studio, and working as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for local publishing company Luminare Press.
